Doing Lunch an LTB

"Doing Lunch" sounds like such a chic thing to do. Doesn't it? By the way, sorry for the unappetizing turkey picture, but I just "did lunch" and don't want to look at too many pictures of food--so I grabbed the first one I found--and, yes, it's a Thanksgiving one.

Back to "Doing Lunch." I love to. I love to meet my friends--usually my writer friends because we are all available during the day, and, yes, we should be home writing, but lunch is much more fun. We sit and chat and chat and often times the table of all women chats at the same time. Frankly, they always chat at the same time. I'm not sure if anyone hears each other or we all like to talk and hear ourselves. But, still, lunching is fun. Anything that involves food is fun, and I'm there!

I noticed a table of men at the restaurant today but I really couldn't say they were "doing lunch." They took turns talking. No one laughed and/or giggled. No one sent their food back because it was cold, or too hot or just didn't taste right. (Three of us sent back our shrimp for that very reason today and one sent back her cake cause it "tasted stale") None of the men took out a calculator to figure out the bill. What the heck is that all about? Don't men know how to enjoy themselves? They all looked like businessmen, so I'm assuming they were at a business lunch. It sure didn't look like fun to me!

Nope. I much prefer my "doing lunch" with the girls. When we finished, the waitress had to come to the table with her calculator and re-write each bill by hand to have them separated to make paying "much easier."

The men came up with some lame idea of "splitting" it down the middle. What? What if I had the Tiramisu and one of the gals didn't have dessert? What if I had tea and Susie Writer had a martini???? What if I had the dinner portion and Amy Author had the lunch special? Don't ask her to split anything or she'd split your lip! (Amy has a wicked left hook)

The waitress, being female, sure didn't seem to mind putting in a bit extra time to do the bill correctly, and I'm sure everyone gave her a generous tip of at least 10%. The men were out of the restaurant before our entrées came, and we'd gotten there about an hour before them. You can't rush "doing lunch."

The guys didn't take home any doggie bags. That's not a fun lunch, I tell you.

So, if anyone wants to "do lunch" on the female terms, drop me a note!

Hey Lori!

When can we expect your next Pauline Sokol book? Or rather, what books can we expect to see published during this year?

I just love the Pauline Sokol mysteries, and I can not wait for more!

Thanks!
Melanie

Thanks! I do miss writing Pauline and the gang. No word of a new one yet as Avon, the publisher, has closed their mystery line. Sigh.

I'll post on my blog and website when I sell the next book, what it'll be about, and when it'll be out.
