Pauline Sokol has spent the last six months learning how to be a kick ass medical insurance fraud investigator from her partner Jagger. Not only that, but she’s spent that time wondering if all of those smoldering looks and last minute rescues mean that he’s interested in her as more than a colleague. No time to worry about that though. Her boss is finally letting her investigate in the field without Jagger, though Goldie finagles his way into the case in Jagger’s place. But this is a big case and two heads may be better than one…

Pauline is sent to New Mexico to a weight loss clinic to find out why the insurance claims are so high. Despite the beautiful western setting in the Sacramento Mountains, Pauline has an uneasy feeling about the Rancho Mirage Slenderizing Clinic. Mirage is right. Even the largest patrons are leaving measuring about half of the size they were when they arrived—and in remarkably fast time.

Size four Pauline would raise eyebrows at such a clinic, but a size 22 Pauline would be just another patient. Donning a body suit, Pauline enters the clinic to see what’s going on. Working cases have always been fun, but having to eat celery, watercress, and fat-free everything does not fall under that category. She and Goldie manage to stash some goodies in their bungalow, but when they get busted it isn’t pretty.

Pauline’s investigation turns up plenty of incriminating facts but nothing is more daunting to her as her roommate—you won’t believe who that is!

Often I get asked how I ended up an author after a career as a registered nurse. Good question. Wish I knew the answer! All I can tell you is that after serving in the Air Force as a registered nurse, I decided to switch careers and now I write a humorous mystery series for Avon Books.
I was always the type of reader who looked at a novel and thought: I could do that. I could write a book! Ha! Not as easy as I thought. I’m a Yankee from New England here I landed again after 20 years of travel. I’m a card-carrying member of Mystery Writers of America, Romance Writers of America (served on the Board of Directors of the CT chapter for eight years), The Author’s Guild and Sisters in Crime. Guys, I gotta tell you, I really believe that we all need a great entertaining read and humor always helps. Thus the Pauline Sokol Mystery Series,in which a burned out nurse becomes a medical insurance fraud investigator, was born. It’s a perfect medium for my quick wit and amusing, believable characters.
The first book of the series, A DOSE OF MURDER, made the best-selling suspense/​thriller list on Amazon(Alongside the likes of Stephen King!) and placed in the Reviewers International Organizations award of excellent for debut novel. Yippee! Great start!
Pauline is named after my grandmother,who was a real kick-ass lady! Grandma died on her birthday at the age of 93 and A Dose of Murder came out on her birthday many years later! What karma! DEAD ON ARRIVAL, about ambulance fraud and introducing a new hunk, ER Dano, came out July 2007. All books of the series are still available.
