Dead on Arrival

Pauline Sokol has left the nursing field behind and found a new career as an investigator of insurance fraud. Or at least she thought she had till her hunky boss Jagger tells her to air out the scrubs and suit up. It seems her next case will take her to TLC, an ambulance service complete with its own helicopter. Pauline will be going undercover as, what else, a nurse to investigate the inflated billing that TLC is filing. And Yikes! Jagger is going undercover with her.

Then she meets hunky pilot, Sky, rugged veteran paramedic ER Dano and EMT trainee Jeremy, affectionately referred to as Buzz Lightyear. She is surrounded by hunky men. So the twins that own the company are a little on the weird side, this undercover assignment has its own hunky perks. That is until one of the twins is murdered, one is almost murdered and Pauline receives a threatening phone call. From insurance fraud to murder, Pauline is determined to catch the culprit. Or die trying.

Dead on Arrival is a fast paced mystery that is filled with twists and turns that keep you guessing. Pauline is funny, quirky and just a little bit like every woman that you easily relate to her and route for her. The sidebar characters add flavor and pizzazz that give the story momentum and keep you glued to the pages. Any fan of the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich will find themselves falling for Lori Avocato's Pauline Sokol. I'm sorry to say that this is my first Pauline mystery but it will definitely not be my last. This series has been added to my Amazon automatic buy list and Ms. Avocato had found her way onto my "must tell everyone about this book" list. I just finished Dead on Arrival and I can't wait for the next adventure. 5 out of 5 Quills.

Pauline is at it again - going undercover and providing lots of laughs and suspense in the process.

Insurance fraud investigator Pauline Sokol is back and working on her most intriguing case to date. Mysterious hottie Jagger brings her in on a case he's also working on, investigating an air and land ambulance company. The company has recently come under new management and since the creepy twins, Payne and Pansy Sterling, took over, the company has been seeing amazing profits. Suspecting billing fraud, Pauline draws on her past career of nursing to go undercover. The only glitch in the plan is that Pauline has a fear of flying.

It isn't long before Pauline discovers the evidence she needs to close the case. When confronted by a knife- wielding Payne, Pauline manages to get away, but without the incriminating paperwork. She and Jagger return to the office and discover Payne with a knife in his chest and the papers missing. There's no shortage of suspects: burned-out paramedic ER Dano, helicopter pilot Sky, accident-prone newbie Buzz, and of course, Payne's twin Pansy, whose grief seems a bit false to Pauline. Pansy is removed from the suspect list when she, too, ends up with a knife in her chest after Payne's funeral. Now Pauline has to find a killer in addition to the missing evidence before the killer makes his move on her!

DEAD ON ARRIVAL by Lori Avocato is Pauline Sokol at her finest. The action is fast-paced, the mystery element suspenseful and tautly written and the cast of supporting characters refreshingly fun. Pauline's mom is still worried about her unmarried daughter and encourages the wearing of thongs on her dates, Jagger is gloriously sexy and as mysterious as ever, and Miles and Goldie are the greatest best friends in the written world. Add to the mix the surly, sexy ER Dano and readers are in for a treat. I read this one in an afternoon!
